How to Make a Heart Shaped Fried Egg

SONY DSCValentine’s day is right around the corner! Even though, to me,  it is a less significant holiday than Easter or Christmas, I still like to recognize it.

I put little Valentine’s day touches around our home, and do something special on the day, however slight. It reminds me of being a kid at school right in the middle of a classroom Valentine’s day party where everyone has to give everyone a Valentine–in our crafted pouches attached to the front of our desks.

Grey and I have the tradition of sharing a large plate of spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, while sitting at our bistro table (we bought when it was just the two of us) with Dean Martin Pandora playing in the background…you know...Lady and the Tramp style ;).

This year, I will be extending our little celebration  throughout the day, just to make it more special. I will be serving these heart-shaped fried eggs along with a few other Valentine’s day goodies for breakfast.

What You Will Need:

  • Medium to small frying pan with lid
  • Cooking Spray
  • Spatula
  • Eggs
  • Heart Shaped Cooker Cutter
  • Butter knife
  • Small pot

**Please note: I am using a colored cookie cutter for the purpose of this tutorial. Please use one that is safe to be heated at high temperatures, preferable one that is colorless or specifically says it is safe to be heated.**

STEP 2: Spray heart-shaped cooker cutter with cooking spray, and place in the center of the pan.SONY DSC

STEP: 3 Turn stove on LOW. ( Any higher and the egg will burn on the outside before cooking in the center…..I know from experience.) SONY DSC

STEP 4: Crack the egg into the cooker cutter. SONY DSC

STEP 5: break the yolk with the tip of a butter knife. SONY DSC

STEP 6 Promptly place the small pan or weighted item onto the cook cutter. (This will help the egg stay contained into the cookie cutter.)SONY DSC

STEP 7: When the egg is cooked enough, about 1-2 minutes, remove small pot.SONY DSC

STEP 8: With a butter knife, clean up any egg that leaked out of the cooker cutter. SONY DSC

STEP 9: Cover and cook egg for about 4 minutes, or until it begins to set. SONY DSC

STEP 10: With a spatula, gently push and loosen the egg until, the entire spatula is under the egg. SONY DSC

STEP 11: Very carefully…FLIP! (if any egg is splattered outside of the cookie cutter, repeat step 8. SONY DSCSONY DSC

STEP 12: Gently loosen the sided of the egg from the cookie cutter, and let the egg fall through to cook the other side. SONY DSC

STEP 13: Remove the cookie cutter from egg. SONY DSCSONY DSC

STEP 14: Serve on a plate, and dress any way you like. Enjoy! SONY DSC

Happy almost Valentine’s Day!

Love, Grey & Brianna
