Our Kitchen Staples Checklist

SONY DSCAbout a year ago, I started putting together a list of items we now keep stocked in our kitchen. I am a weekly meal planner, and generally go grocery shopping once a week for various ingredients needed for our weekly meals, but also use this weekly trip, to the grocery store, to restock on items from our “staples checklist.” I cannot say enough how much this has made my life easier in the kitchen:

1) As a cook, having these basic essentials in our home, makes throwing a last-minute meal together a cinch. (Ie: unexpected guests, a new recipe didn’t turn out right…and now what’s for dinner?,etc.)

2) As a wife and mom, it is important to my family that our cupboards and fridge are well stocked with snacks, food for lunches, and last-minute dinners.

3) On weeks that I am not able to make it to the grocery store, we can still eat nice balanced meals.

and lastly….

4) Maybe it’s just me, but a well stocked pantry looks so pretty! 😉

Of course this list will change to meet our families needs over time, but this is our current list. I hope this encourages you to formulate your own kitchen staples list, (because only you know what you need in your kitchen!) Though the initial trip to the store will be a bit more expensive than usual–it makes life much simpler (at least in our home anyway)…especially when you’re in a pinch.
