“Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.” ~Dwight D. Eisenhower
Happy Independence Day. This morning I am busy in the kitchen making simple cowboy cookies for a block party later tonight. The garden is watered, the chickens are fed, and it is surprisingly cool in comparison to the rest of this week.
It’s amazing how quickly this year is flying by…The Fourth of July signifies the height of summer to me: fireworks, BBQ, outdoor gatherings, swimming pools and long days. Lately, I have been exceptionally thankful for these long days, and want to enjoy every moment of them. We are patiently awaiting baby’s arrival. I finally have the hospital bag packed with the adorable outfits he or she will wear home. Our house is coming along nicely, and it already feels so much like home.
Even with all of the obvious blessings that are in my life right now, it is still so easy to get distracted by the noise in this world sometimes. (The imposed “you need this!” marketing schemes, don’t forget to do “this!” “this!” and “this!” before the baby gets here.) The things of this world so easily clutter up my mind. It is on mornings like today, that I am brought back to what really matters. Days like today, almost leave me baffled at how beautiful life truly is.
I firmly believe that it is essential to block out that noise daily that sneaks into our lives that may leave us feeling “too busy” “hopeless” “sad” “stressed” or “depressed” to find happiness. For me to feel joyful, meditation on: God, family, health, beauty, simplicity, laughter, and the present moment are vital.
Thank you God for leaving me with such a rich inheritance as your child. I pray for every person that these words reach–with a blessing for richness and fulfillment in their lives. Thank you for always seeking us Lord. Open their hearts, so they know how beautiful you created them to be. Give us the strength and discernment to push away anything in our lives that leave us heavy hearted. Allow us to find these quiet times to hear your voice, and meditate on the goodness in our lives. Let us continue to be more like you. Flood the people around us with: faith, hope, and love for you. Thank you for your word, and the fact that we are not restricted from reading it. Amen.
Hope you have a very Happy Fourth of July
