Every now and then (and by every now and then…I mean about once or twice a week,) it’s nice to be able to throw something together for dinner that takes 20-30 minutes–tops. On nights we get home late, we have limited amount of time, or I just plain don’t feel like cooking, we have a couple of quick meals up our sleeve that are tasty and quick.
One of which, is good ‘ol fashioned sloppy joes. Who doesn’t love ‘em? I don’t know. The standard for us is to make them the easy way with 1 pound of ground beef, 1 – 6 oz can of tomato paste, 1 cup of water, ¼ cup of dry wine, and a handy-dandy McCormick Sloppy Joe spice packet.
We then top some bread or bun with the tasty sloppy joe slop and call it good.
It is, however, refreshing to lighten up this lazy girl’s dinner, by swapping ground turkey for ground beef. It tends to sit lighter in the gut, and it tastes just as delicious….introducing sloppy Janes.
By all means this is not something I came up with. Heck it says right on the spice packet “brown 1 lb of ground beef or ground turkey.” We just made them the other night and I wanted to let ya’ll know that it is scrumptious…and oh so healthy.
Especially when you serve it on sprouted grain bread and a leafy green salad alongside. If you haven’t yet, lighten up– swap the ground beef for ground turkey and have a sloppy Jane.
Love, Grey and Brianna.
