Last Sunday, Grey and I made a short journey to our local state park to get a couple snapshots for this year’s Christmas card. It was raining, and cold. Grey felt very insistent on telling me what a waste of time Christmas cards were; and I equally let him know my strong opinion on the contrary.
We set up camp with our props of stocking, umbrellas, and the biggest cheesy smiles we could muster up.
and the pictures were exactly that. Cheeeeeessssy.
…It wasn’t until after about 10 shots…and ten “nays,” we started finding this “run! pose! smile!” fiasco quite comical. We couldn’t take ourselves seriously anymore.
It was in this flurry of running, laughing, falling down in the rain (yes, I fell down in the mud,) that we actually got a decent looking Christmas card photo. It reminded me that life is better candid. The unexpected, the unplanned, and the hilarious are what make memories.
….and good Christmas cards.
