How to make homemade teriyaki sauce?

It’s easy!…and so much tastier (and cheaper!) than the store-bought varieties

Enjoy this sauce on meats, stir-fry, tofu, skewers, etc.

Start by combining 3 minced cloves of garlic, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup of soy sauce in a small saucepan.

Next, in a small dish, whisk together 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 teaspoons of Mirin. Don’t worry…if you’re thinking: “What the homemade-teriyaki-sauce-is-mirin?!” …

I came with (some) answers. It’s a rice wine similar to sake but with lower alcohol content. It is made up of 40%-50% sugar. *”Phew! that doesn’t sound so intimidating, right?”*

Next, pour the mirin cornstarch mixture into the small saucepan with the yummy garlic, sugar, soy sauce mixture. 🙂

Cook over medium heat, until the sugar has dissolved and …voila! Teriyaki sauce! Don’t you feel like a professional chef after making something like that?

Pour over chicken or toss with a stir healthy vegetable stir-fry.

    1. Good! This recipe is super simple. …and I haven’t tested this yet…but I’m hypothesizing that if you replace corn syrup for sugar, they teriyaki sauce will be much stickier and thicker (like some store-bought varieties.) I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe! ~Bri.
