Boiling Water Canning: How to Sterilize Jars

Sterilizing jars is quite simple and the most important step of the canning process. Thoroughly wash jars in a dishwasher on the hottest setting. If you do not own a dishwasher hand-washing is fine, (I hand-wash!) just use a good quality soap and hot water.

Place washed jars in boiling water canner (just a big pot.) Fill half way with water, filling jars so they don’t float. Cover and bring water to boiling. Turn down to medium so the water is at a low rolling boil for 5-7 minutes.

When ready to pack with food, grab jars out of boiling water canner with canning tongs. See that steaming hot jar? It’s sterilized. Way to go.

Hope your day is exquisite

Love,

Grey and Brianna
